Kathirur, June 5, 2024 – The Kerala Cooperation Department held a district-level inauguration for World Environment Day at the Kathirur Bank Auditorium on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at 2 p.m. The event was a small yet significant gathering aimed at raising local awareness about environmental sustainability.
The program began with a welcome address by Mr. E. Rajendran, Cooperative Joint Registrar of Kannur. Shri Sreejith Choyan, President of the Kathirur Service Cooperative Bank, presided over the meeting, highlighting the importance of community involvement in environmental initiatives.
The inauguration was officially conducted by the Honorable District Collector of Kannur, Shri Arun K. Vijayan IAS. In his speech, Shri Vijayan emphasized the need for local action to support global environmental balance and climate sustainability. He encouraged the attendees to engage in eco-friendly practices and community-driven environmental projects.
Greetings and short speeches were delivered by several local dignitaries. Mr. PP Sanil, President of the Kathirur Gramapanchayath, spoke about the local efforts to address environmental challenges. Shri V. Ramakrishnan, Cooperative Joint Director of Kannur, underscored the cooperative department’s role in promoting green practices. Shri CV Saseendran, Managing Committee Member of the State Co-operative Union, discussed the union’s commitment to sustainability. Shri T. Anil, Chairman of the Thalassery Circle Cooperative Union, shared insights on the union’s environmental initiatives. Mr. K. Padmanabhan, Secretary of the PACS Association, Kannur District, highlighted ongoing projects aimed at environmental protection. Mr. K. Sreedharan, President of the PACS Association, Kannur District, encouraged local cooperatives to lead by example in sustainability efforts. Lastly, Mr. KV Nandakumar, Associate Assistant Registrar Planning, Kannur, provided practical tips on effective environmental planning.
The event concluded with a call to action for all participants to actively contribute to environmental sustainability in their daily lives and community activities. The organizing committee, led by the Convener, expressed their gratitude to all attendees for their participation and support. The event, though modest in scale, was a meaningful step towards fostering a sustainable future in Kannur.
