AI Revolution in Cooperative Banking: Kadirur Service Cooperative Bank’s ‘ChangAI’ and ‘AI Care Point’

Challenging the perception that modern banking technologies are accessible only to large commercial banks, Kadirur Service Cooperative Bank in Kannur district is creating a new benchmark in Kerala’s primary cooperative sector.

While preserving the traditional trust and social commitment of the cooperative movement, the bank has developed ‘ChangAI’, an AI-powered assistant designed to make banking services more accessible and efficient. Alongside this, the bank is launching its ‘AI Care Point’ on October 1, International Day of Older Persons.

Together, these initiatives demonstrate how artificial intelligence can be practically applied to improve banking services within the cooperative sector.

How ChangAI Works

The system is designed to enable customers visiting the bank to access and carry out simple banking services with minimal assistance from employees.

Consent and Photo Capture

When a customer approaches the kiosk or tablet counter, the system first seeks the customer’s consent and then captures their photograph.

Facial Recognition

The captured photograph is matched with the customer’s KYC photograph associated with their Customer ID in the bank’s system to verify their identity.

Access to Account Information

Once the verification is completed, relevant account information—including savings accounts, fixed deposits (FDs), and loans—is displayed on the tablet in real time.

Self-Service Banking

Customers can select the required account and use simple prompts to access and carry out banking services independently, without requiring assistance from bank employees.

Key Benefits
Security and Transparency

The facial-recognition-based verification system is designed to strengthen identity verification, improve accuracy, and help reduce the risk of fraudulent access.

Reducing Employee Workload

The system is expected to automate a significant portion of front-office activities—reportedly around 80%—allowing employees to spend more time on customer relationships and business development rather than routine data-entry tasks.

Real-Time Information

Customers no longer need to approach a counter simply to obtain information about their deposits or loans. Through the ChangAI system, they can quickly access relevant information, including details of interest receivable and payable, within moments.

A Helping Hand for Senior Citizens: ‘AI Care Point’

Digital technologies can often feel unfamiliar or complicated for senior citizens.

Kadirur Service Cooperative Bank aims to turn technology into a tool that makes banking more accessible and convenient for older customers.

Senior citizens who may find it difficult to climb stairs or fill out forms can access banking services conveniently on the ground floor, without the difficulties associated with conventional procedures. The ‘AI Care Point’ is being dedicated to the public on October 1, International Day of Older Persons.

The initiative will be inaugurated by Mahi MLA Shri M. K. Ashok Kumar.

The project reflects the cooperative sector’s broader vision of ensuring that technology serves ordinary people and improves their access to essential services.

The initiative by Kadirur Service Cooperative Bank demonstrates how primary cooperative institutions can embrace the fintech era while continuing to focus on accessibility, trust, and community-oriented banking.

It also serves as an example of how cooperative institutions can explore the practical use of artificial intelligence to improve customer service and make banking more accessible to the community.
